REBEL TOURS RECOMMENDS

FOOD

MILDRED’S - VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Opened in 1980, this is London’s oldest veggie restaurant. Now fully plant-based, Mildred’s has a delicious seasonal menu that’s popular with everyone, there’s a reason they’re still in business! P.S. Leave room for tiramisu…

THE PUNJAB - SEVEN DIALS

The Punjab claims to be the oldest Indian restaurant in England. All we know is that it’s our go-to curry house in central London! Family owned, good value and incredibly tasty!

BEZA ETHIOPIAN - ELEPHANT AND CASTLE

London has some really good options for Ethiopian cuisine, and Beza is one of the best. It’s very cute, inexpensive and the food is so nourishing and wholesome. Perfect if you love sharing!

TOFU VEGAN - VARIOUS LOCATIONS

All your favourite Chinese classics, made fully vegan. Insanely popular since it opened, booking is recommended. A must-try is the “fish” in sizzling chilli oil - amazing!

JAM DELISH - ANGEL

This family owned, independent restaurant, serves some of the yummiest Caribbean food in London and is fully plant-based. It’s our new favourite and the cocktails are also banging!

pubs

THE BLACK HEART - CAMDEN

Camden Town boasts some of the best grungy pubs and the Black Heart is a hub for London’s heavy metal crowd, but everyone is welcome! Live music and the best vegan Sunday roast in town.

THE SPREADEAGLE - HOMERTON

London’s first fully vegan pub, it has a seasonal menu and sustainability at its heart. With classic like pie and mash, and a warm atmosphere, it feels like a proper pub!

THE OLD EAGLE - CAMDEN

Our favourite Irish pub, the Old Eagle is a proper local boozer. Plenty of live music including regular Irish Trad nights, and a resident feline friend - what’s not to like?

THE PRIDE OF SPITALFIELDS - BRICK LANE

If it’s a real East End pub experience you want, then the Pride is what you need. Carpets, fireplace and piano, this is where you’ll find all the locals (plus some students attracted by the lower prices). It does get very busy, so earlier in the day is better if you want a seat.

CAMDEN HEAD AND THE BILL MURRAY - ANGEL, ISLINGTON

One thing we love in Britain, besides pubs, is stand up comedy. These two venues are home to London’s best night: Angel Comedy. Free comedy every night (pay what you like at the end), or try to catch one of the big names trying out new material. If you go for the free comedy night, get there early as it’s first come, first serve.

museums

LONDON MUSEUM - CITY AND DOCKLANDS

Hands down our favourite museum in London. It’s the best way (besides our tours) to uncover the real history of the city and its people, as well as to uncover London’s hidden stories. The Smithfields site will be ready in 2026, but the Docklands site is an incredible exhibition exploring the industry of the docks and the legacy of Empire and Colonialism. Oh, and it’s free!

WHITECHAPEL GALLERY - ALDGATE EAST

We love the Tate, but a popular gallery with locals is the Whitechapel art gallery. Also free, it’s much smaller and much older that the Tate Modern, but always boasts a fantastic contemporary art exhibition. It’s a fab afternoon out, after you’ve enjoyed the artwork, you can chill in the cafe or peruse the bookshop. Look out for their Lates, where the gallery stays open and cocktails are served!

SIR JOHN SOANE MUSEUM - LINCOLN’S INN

John Soane was a Regency era architect who built his own beautiful house in the City, filled it with an eclectic collection of objects and then left everything in his will to be used as a free museum. It contains sculpture, paintings by Canaletto and Turner among others, and even the sarcophagus of Seti I. No need to book, just show up.

THE VAGINA MUSEUM - BETHNAL GREEN

Yes, you read that correctly. This is the world’s first museum dedicated to the vagina, vulva and gynaecology in general! Designed to celebrate rather than stigmatise, the exhibitions also explore themes related to women’s rights, feminism, and the LGBTQ+ community. Tickets are free, you can book to guarantee entry.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

There are so many other incredible galleries and cultural spaces in London! Some other favourites are the Barbican, William Morris Gallery, Pitzhanger Gallery and the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

MARKETS

JUBILEE MARKET - COVENT GARDEN

A little secret hidden in plain sight. On most days, this market looks like any other central London tourist trap, selling “I love London” T-shirts. But on Monday it turns into one of the best and cheapest antique markets in town. Perfect for treasure hunting.

BRICK LANE - SHOREDITCH

Not exactly a hidden gem these days, but we still love Brick Lane market! You can go down any day, but the arts, crafts and antique stalls are only open on a Sunday, and that’s the best bit! While you’re there, grab some of the amazing street food or browse the vinyl at Rough Trade Records.

BROADWAY MARKET - HACKNEY

Dating back to the Victoria era, this East London market opens on a Saturday and is a favourite for locals. An amazing selection of food, clothing, jewellery, crafts, and anything else you can think of. If you can’t make it for the market, the street itself has over 70 shops, cafes and restaurants open every day.

CAMDEN PASSAGE - ANGEL, ISLINGTON

This quirky eclectic market is open on Wednesday and Saturday and is a wonderful mix of vintage, bric-a-brac, art and antiques. Lot’s of great cafes and food in the area if you want to stop for lunch.
